Our Grantmaking Model
Our grant partners guide us.
We believe change happens at a hyper-local level. We lean into our partners' insights and guidance to help direct funds where they are needed most and provide the best value.
Pangea's grantmaking.
Since 2003, Pangea has partnered with over 80 grassroots organizations in the Global South. Each year we invite existing and new partners to submit applications for funding.

Is invitation-only.
Due to limited capacity and funding, Pangea does not accept unsolicited applications. Instead, we find new partners through recommendations from our members, current partners, and other international philanthropies.

Targets local communities.
Pangea works primarily in rural and indigenous communities, prioritizing strong local leadership and gender balance.

Are small in scope.
Grants are small, typically ranging from $3,000 to $10,000, but involve a long-term commitment of usually 5+ years.

Are mostly unrestricted.
Most grants are for unrestricted operating costs, though new partners often start with a project grant as part of the initial evaluation and “getting to know each other” process.

Are reviewed regularly.
Regional committees, known as "pods," review invited applications, and make funding recommendations to the board of directors.

Partnership Philosophy
Respect
We strive to develop a mutually respectful relationship with our partners. We acknowledge the power differential between Grantor and Grantee, and work to minimize those differences.
Oversight
While Pangea minimizes the administrative burden of reporting, we monitor proper fund usage through site visits, written reports, and ongoing communication.
