About Us
Sharing a common spirit of philanthropy.
Pangea Giving is a giving circle designed to provide members and donors with direct and effective ways to support grassroots organizations in developing countries. The organization focuses its efforts on regions experiencing high levels of poverty and a significant risk of human rights abuses.
What is a Giving Circle?
A giving circle brings together people with shared interests and values to pool their resources and make grants to organizations addressing causes they care about. They generally incorporate democratic decision-making, shared learning, and making community connections.
Most US giving circles support causes in their local communities. Pangea is unique as one of the only US giving circles that work internationally supporting small non-profits in the global south —Latin America, East Africa, and Asia.
If you prefer to be part of a giving community that supports and connects with other communities around the world, to learn about people and their lives in other parts of the globe, and to actively participate in deciding how your charitable donation will be spent rather than just writing a check to a large non-profit, Pangea is for you.
Our History
The earliest concept for Pangea Giving came about soon after the attacks of September 11, 2001 to determine how individuals could promote international understanding and peace across cultures and countries.
A small group of people in the Seattle area decided to form a giving circle focused on rural community development in the Global South – from its inception, Pangea has been a community of like-minded individuals whose members learn together and pool their resources to support people in the Global South.
Pangea Giving started with five founding members and grew to a membership of over 50 individuals and families. Since 2003, it has partnered with 80 grassroots organizations in 13 developing countries and awarded grants of over $2 million.
Mission
Pangea Giving supports grassroots organizations globally to improve the well-being of their communities through engaged giving.
A key aspect of Pangea’s mission is to develop trusting and mutually beneficial relationships with our grant partners. This relationship is nurtured through transparent communication, capacity building, and a practice of continuous learning.
We believe that lasting change is built from the ground up. We support the self-defined needs of local communities, and help to build their capacity and leadership to meet those needs.
