   Grant Partners 2026:
  Latin America

Voces Y Manos, Guatemala

Located in rural Rabinal, Voces y Manos works to empower indigenous youth to advance the health and well-being of their communities. The agroecology and leadership project (launched in 2024 with the support of Pangea), has successfully transformed how children engage with nature and their own nutrition.

The project seeks to integrate children, teachers, and parents to strengthen their connection, harmony, and relationship with Mother Earth, revaluing the ancestral knowledge of grandparents, and promoting food sovereignty through a series of activities such as:

  • Planting diverse seeds through school gardens

  • Community school trips

  • Educational agroecological fairs

  • Preparation of food dishes

  • Adoption of agroecological practices and/or monitoring projects

  • Knowledge exchange

  • Food production from within the communities

  • Oral health and hand washing

  • Partner since 2024

  • 2026 Grant Award: $11,000

  • Grant Goals: Add three additional schools to reach a total of eight schools, serving 350 children aged 9-13, in the 3rd and 4th grades of primary school.

Mujeres de Desarrollo (MUDEM), Mexico

MUDEM works to address the environmental needs of rural communities in Oaxaca State. Established in 2013, they operate in 4 municipalities within the Mixtec region. Their focus is on the just and sustainable management of water, organizing participatory processes from a gender perspective with deep respect for human rights and the voices of women, recognizing their fundamental role in building the common good.

Interventions include training and empowerment, as well as strengthening knowledge of human rights to water and sanitation by addressing topics such as water quality, menstrual hygiene, and ecological sanitation systems, as well as closing the nutrient cycle.

  • New Partner in 2026

  • 2026 Grant Award: $5,000

  • Grant Goals: Build a rainwater harvesting, storage, and purification system along with family-based agroecological gardens in rural La Laguna. These improvements will contribute to women's economic autonomy, freeing up time for other activities, and providing greater security for women and girls in the area.

UNOSJO (Organization of the Sierra Juarez of Oaxaca)

Based in the mountains of northern Oaxaca, Mexico, UNOSJO is an indigenous-led group dedicated to strengthening local autonomy and food security. They work in 22 local communities addressing:

  • Women’s Empowerment: They actively dismantle gender barriers by training women for leadership roles and hosting workshops that elevate their status within both the family and the community.

  • Economic & Skill Training: Through strategic partnerships, they provide practical vocational training, such as soap making and navigating the coffee market.

  • Youth & Tradition: They bridge the generational gap by teaching young people how to cultivate "kitchen gardens," focusing specifically on traditional crops to ensure long-term food sovereignty.

UNOSJO is weaving traditional indigenous knowledge with modern community-building to create a more self-sufficient future.

  • Partner since 2019

  • 2026 Grant Award: $10,000

  • Grant Goals: Training isolated rural communities in improving economic independence.

Still to Come in 2026!

Through the generosity of our members and donors, we will have the opportunity to bring on an additional grant partner in 2026. We look forward to announcing our newest partner later this summer.

A new initiative is also in the works to bring together indigenous youth from several of our grant partners who are working to address climate change and develop sustainable agricultural practices. The vision of this new initiative is to develop a network that provides ongoing support, training, and the exchange of ideas and successful practices. We believe that such efforts can have significant local and regional impacts.
